1. WHAT IS A DANCE-A-THON?

PULL UP TO THE BUMPER is a fundraiser in the tele-thon or walk-a-thon sense – contestants collect pledges from friends, family, neighbours, and coworkers to dance. Their contributions over $30 are tax-deductible and the pledges you earn make you eligible for a number of great prizes! The top pledge earners get to choose their favourite prize packs! 

Collecting pledges is easy. Here’s a strategy on how to raise $600 in 1 week (it’s been done before!):

  • Day 1: Sponsor yourself for $30
  • Day 2: Ask four family members for $30 each
  • Day 3: Ask five friends for $25 each
  • Day 4: Ask five co-workers for $20 each
  • Day 5: Ask five neighbours for $25 each
  • Day 6: Ask your job for a $100 contribution

Asking friends and co-workers for even small donations of $1, $2, $5 will help get you closer to your fundraising goal. Bringing in $151 instead of $150 can make all the difference in terms of getting the great prize you want! Also, remember that all pledges over $50 are tax deductible – though we do need full contact information for the donor in order to issue tax receipts. Pledges over $20 receive a free Or Gallery membership and Tote Bag! 

2. HOW DO I WIN PRIZES?

Prizes are awarded to dancers who raise the most pledge money!!! We have a list of goodies you’ll get for bringing in $20 – $100 of pledges and then a whole list of fun and unique prizes for the TOP pledge earners. The participant who brings in the MOST pledges gets to choose first among our collection of special prizes, the second highest gets second pick, and so on until all the prizes are dispersed. There are lots of prizes, so you have a good chance of getting one!  

3. WHY SHOULD I COLLECT PLEDGES?

Besides the opportunity to win some fabulous prizes, you will be helping support a great non-profit artist-run centre and its programming! We need your support! The Or Gallery’s mandate is to provide a non-profit gallery that benefits the community as a whole, providing exhibition space to local and out-of region contemporary artists, particularly those who make experimental and idea-based art their practice. NIGHT FEVER is a great opportunity to tell your associates why you think the Or Gallery is an important place for art!

4. SO THEN WHAT ARE TEAMS FOR?

Teams allow you to get a bonus prize along with your group of friends. If you’re part of a team, you collect pledges and are eligible for prizes in the same way as normal. The only difference, is that we also calculate the total pledges of your team. If you’re the team with the most pledges, you win! 

5. DO I NEED TO DANCE NON-STOP?

While we will not be monitoring how long you will be dancing, we do encourage you to stay and dance as much as you can over the five-hour period. How often you hit the dance floor and show us your moves is between you and your conscience and/or your sponsors. It's a good idea to make some kind of statement about how long you plan to dance on your personal fundraising page as well as any other details that will entice your potential supporters. However, this isn’t a dance marathon in the They Shoot Horses sense, but rather a dance-a-thon in the tele-thon or walk-a-thon sense.

6. CAN I PLEDGE OR SPONSOR MYSELF?

Yes. You can even make up strange and mysterious names, as long as the pledge money is real. 

7. I NOTICE DONATIONS ARE MAINLY COMING IN THROUGH THIS WEBSITE. CAN I STILL ASK MY SPONSORS FOR CASH, CHEQUE, OR PAYPAL DONATIONS?

Yes! You can bring in cash or cheques anytime from now until the night of and we'll apply the donations to your profile. Your sponsors can also mail cheques to us at 555 Hamilton Street, Vancouver, BC, V6B 2R1. Paypal contributions can be made through the link on our Donations page. Please make sure the contestant name is added in the comments so we know to whom to apply the contribution. 

8. I COULD NOT GET IT TOGETHER TO COLLECT PLEDGES. CAN I STILL COME?

If you haven’t raised any pledges we still want you to come to the party! Door admission is $20. But why not pledge yourself for $20 and get an Or Gallery membership and tote bag, or $30 and receive an Or Gallery Mug and be automatically entered into our random prize draw? Everyone is welcome at the dance-a-thon regardless of how they decide to participate. We hope everyone can come and show their support. 100% of the proceeds from this event will help support the Or Gallery and its programming.
